those WERE games for kids. the thing is they were accessible enough for kids as young as 3 to learn how to play it and even master it (well, not Zelda 2 at age 3 :P). The issue is that these days games for kids has taken the connotation of friendly characters and low budget, instead of high quality and accessible.
