Slurs are connected to oppression. White people are not oppressed for being white.
Slurs are connected to oppression. White people are not oppressed for being white.
A “slur” really just means an insult, if you’re taking it that generally. If I’m streaming on Twitch and start talking about how I don’t like people whose birthdays fall between a certain set of dates, maybe I even invent a word for them like “Libras” or “Cancers”, is that worthy of being banned? It’s not NICE, sure,…
“Cracker” is as much a ‘slur’ as calling someone short.
The fact is that yes, he used a slur. No, that’s never a good look.
Not true. Words have historical contexts that shape their connotative meaning. “Cracker” has none of the (frankly despicable) historical context of systemic oppression that slurs like the n-word have. Words like the n-word were used to express white dominance over another race and culture. Words like “cracker” were…
This is giving me flashbacks to NY WFP vote to endorse Warren over Bernie. The WFP refused to release the vote totals, but it was obvious the members voted to back Bernie, but the directors wanted Warren, and overrode the popular vote total.
Are they ever making a sequel to Yoku? That game was over too quickly and I need more Metroidvania pinball!
Go hard or go home:
No matter who gets announced, at least half the player base will be upset.
All Gawker sites seem to have gotten a silent mandate to absolutely minimize any possible outside links or screens unless they have been explicitly supplied to them. There’s an article up on AV Club right now talking about Lindsey Lohan’s ‘fursona’ with no actual image of it even though it’s directly in the linked…
ok, this seems nice and all, but what platform is this on? There seems to be a trend lately on Kotaku where articles omit this kind of information altogether and fail to produce screenshots that actually represent the things described in the article. Can you all work on these flaws going forward?
They are “free” in the sense that if they were removed, Amazon wouldn’t be charging less for their Prime service, nor would I wager the overwhelming majority of subscribers be dropping their subscription if those games weren’t available.
I’ve been wondering if Kotaku could do a regular column on free games. It'd be nice to not just have to rely on the occasional article that goes up because it just happens to align with the person interests of a game journalist who happened to spot it. :)
Faye’s costume doesn’t work well in animation, either
And honestly, Faye’s costume doesn’t work well in animation, either. I rewatched Bebop last year, for the first time since I was a teenage boy (who even then found it cringey), and frankly it’s embarrassing how she's dressed and how the show visually frames her. The shitty racial stereotyping and treatment of…
If they’re not going to do a straight remake I’d be behind a queer remake 100%
Ma'am this is a Wendy's
BoTW runs like ass half of the game, and thats a port of a Wii U game
Noone’s saying Epic isn’t allowed do this; but they aren’t above scrutiny or criticism either.
Yes, it was a low budget indie studio adapting a real life game into a video game concept. No one is claiming they invented this type of game. But they clearly popularized the current iteration of it and you’d be hard-pressed to argue Fortnite would be doing this had they not.
