Dend Pixels feels a bit like the story of some British roommates who play Mythic Quest. Similar goofy but dark sense of humour. Also, they both mock game tropes and nerds in a way that feels accurate and authentic, as opposed to something like the Big Bang Theory.

She claims it was meant to be a joke about white privelege and from what i read in John Robson book Pulbicly Shamed, I believe her. Even if it wasn’t, one dumb, racist Tweet did not warrant what happened to her. She didn’t just lose her job, she had to move house multiple times, deal with hundreds of direct rape and

Dend Pixels is a lot of fun. Like a low fuel Mythic Quedt, but it has a lot of that Fresh Meat, Peep Show vibe. And it’s only 6 episodes.

To be fair, the soundtrack has Sabbath, Zeppelin, Stooges, MC5, Deep Purple, The Who, Neil Young, Hendrix, Bowie and a bunch of other artists on it too. There’s a lot of soft rock in there, but for a movie set in 1973, I think it’s got plenty of the harder rock end of things.

Fun article, appreciate the level of detail. All those model numbers bring back a lot of memories. Even if they look like shit now, digitally shot films were super inspiring for wannabes like myself back in the day. Surprised 28 Days Later wasn’t mentioned in the article. I was convinced if I got my hands on a Canon

To be fair, Greatest Showman made a truckload if money. So did the Mama Mias, Pitch Perfects, Lee Miserables etc. Musicals can be super profitable. I can see why execs thought it could make a lot of money.

It depends what you’re prioritising. As a story, I think it’s much less coherent and emotionally satisfying than Shaun or Hot Fuzz. However it’s weird, audacious, the directing is breathtaking and the cast are incredible. Also it's stuffed with funny gags and well choreographed fights.

Worth remembering that as square as Lucas and Spielberg were, they were part of that 70s brat pack. If you can be besties with coked out of their minds Scorcese, Milius and DePalma, I’m sure you could click with Tarantino.

Console wars are dumb in general. There are times when a “winner” is clear, like Dreamcast vs PS2, but generally it’s all murkier than that. You can look at units sold, but you kinda need to consider market shares, corporate goals, different territories, game attachment rate, etc.

I’d imagine its more a showrunner rule of thumb than a clear BBC exec rule. I think you’re underestimating how insane the production challenges are on TV in general, and Who in particular. I’d argue it’s the hardest show to make in the world. The Writers Tale is just page after page of RTD going “right, the epic

It hopefully seems to have died out, but Hollywood has long celebrated the idea that the more difficult and abusive you are on set, the more brilliant you must be. See Kubrick, Hitchcock, Cameron etc.

Yeah, I don’t expect it’s going to be flattering for Polanski. Even ignoring him being a child rapist, feom what I’ve read, his general behaviour on set of Chinatown and treatment of Dunaway was pretty appalling. A decent movie can reconcile him being talented with being a total scumbag.

Legends of Tomorrow did it.

I admire the shit out of Adam McKay for using his Hollywood clout to make films that talk about the underdiscussed, fucked up, corruption destroying America.

He definitely deserves some credit for that, but a lot of that aid work comes in the form of telling governments how to spend foreign aid budgets, which he refuses to contribute to. He’s been caught time and again tax dodging (moving residency out of Ireland Panama papers, etc) and is totally unapologetic about it.

I love U2s music but let’s not romanticise the generosity of Bono, an incredibly wealthy, unapologetic serial tax dodger. Which wouldn’t be so bad if he didn’t spend his time lecturing governments on how to spend tax money raised from much poorer folk.

Yeach, I came here hoping they’d explain some of this for the Olds like myself. Apparently “TikToks can be up to 15 seconds long, but users can also connect multiple clips together for up to 60 seconds of total recording. You can also upload longer videos that have been recorded outside the app itself”

“the set of the Ellen Show isn’t the greatest, most touchy feely place ever to work”

Smight breaks it down better point by point and I’m afraid I’m a little hazy. There was also apparently tension over the Flash lands in Wonder woman gag. Its said that Gadot refused to do it, so after a fight, Whedon used a standin, ignoring her underlying point.

While hiring disabled actors for disabled roles is important, writers are way behind the curve in including characters with physical or learning disabilities into shows. They are so horribly under represented in current TV, given that almost 13% of Americans have some form of disability. I think in a decade or two
