Jeez, the guys makes an offhand comment that if you reboot the show, make it diverse, and because there was a show about black people who were friends two decades ago, people are angry? Can you imagine the outrage if someone suggested you couldn’t do a sitcom with a diverse cast because they made one twenty years ago?

Canon is something I’ve a hard time caring about, so that’s not an issue for me. Take Punisher the End. Frank finds the last survivors of humanity... and kills them. He’s so obsessed with judgement/in love with killing, that he would wipe out the human race rather than contemplate reason or forgiveness.

Because regardless of how well they write them, it’s unlikely to have the heft of being the capper to a specific writers run. The likes of Peter David or Garth Ennis wrote Hulk and Punisher for over a decade each. That gives their finales an extra depth both on the page and as a reader.

I always thought Irish goodbye was a weird term for it, because here in Ireland, people make a big deal of goodbyes and they take bloody ages.

The good news is their membership is catering and the number of scientologist in the USA is probably now below 20,000 and has been shrinking since 2001. South Park, scandals and the Internet in general have really helped.

Really? Of frequency? What for?

Hey, though I might not like your message, I can’t help but admire your craft. It’s impressive getting so much wrong in such a relatively brief post.

Sorry, I should have been clearer. They renew their big watercooler heavy hitter shows. However most shows generate buzz for the first couple of seasons but unless they’re a massive hit, its more profitable to make new shows that get attention and new subscribers (which drives their stock market value).

I heard their research shows that renewing a show after 2 seasons doesn’t drive enough new subs to make it worthwhile unless the shows huge. I think they're underestimating the longer term effects on brand loyalty. Once people have been burned enough times, they may stop falling for the hot new show.

Aren't most 13 year old boys incels?

That’s a brilliant point.

The tories care about how they and their opponents are portrayed in news output. They do not care about political subtext in scripted TV shows, particularly not Dr Who. (I’ve worked for the BBC in current affairs and as a script writer.)

I hope this is half as fun as the amazing non linear interrogation game Her Story. What a great way to spend 2-3 hours. Highly recommended for anyone interested in this idea. It's now cheap as chips and available on PC, Android, ios, etc.

What’s the Kotaku crazyness? Why would it lead to AVClub closing?

The great Netflix Doc, Behind the Curve covers this. The need for companionship and a sense of the world far outweighs the need for logic. See also, every religion in history.

It doesn't have to be faithful to count as an adaptation. There are thousands of stories with a criminal in Gotham called the Joker. He's one of the most famous fictional character ms on the planet. My Mum and Dad know who the Joker is but couldn't point Wolverine out of a lineup. As a reinvention of that character,

I like cringe comedy but I get that it’s an acquired taste. Like horror, the discomfort and release is part of the therapeutic fun. And the original Office is up there with the best of the genre.

I mostly know her from the LOBDELL Nicietza xmen era. She was briefly interesting as a femme fatale love rival for Scott, but Morrison replaced her with a far superior dark telepathy in Emma Frost.

The Reyes and Sunspot actors are both Brazilian, which I think is fair enough. It’s not like they made them Caucasian North Americans. Ideal world they’d probably be Afro Latino but they're being fairly faithful by Hollywood standards. Casting is hard.

I’ll see you Rogue and raise you Psylocke. I was a hardcore X-men fan as a kid and have read on and off for 20 years since and I'm still confused by Psylocke. Tho technically most of my confusion is all the Seige Perilous body swap madness, so it's not really her origin I have problems with.
