Have you seen the original British Office? I find Gervais hit and miss at the best of times, but the original Office is a low budget sitcom that changed comedy worldwide for a decade at least. It’s beautifully observed, dark, honest, hilarious and brutal. It’s an absolute masterpiece and gives him a free pass for his

Oh come on, the AVClubs default position is snark. It always has been. Even on fairly serious political topics. You think they should make an exception for a twitter spat about a 20 year old book?

Huh? I didnt suggest he had to watch it. Of course he has a right to say so. But by clicking the link and then commenting he’s signal boosting the article. The AVClub make more money for posting it and the algorithm displays it with more prominence.

“fuck you - Barsanti, AV Club, Spanfeller - for posting this”

“Are you ready to meet you birth parents?”

One was the son of the most powerful person in the universe. Hugely important person undercover isn't really a nobody. Star Wars has precedent in the whole "certain point of view" twist, but I thought it was so much more interesting when she was a random person making something of herself.

Blank Check is probably already popular here, but their 5 buck a month patreon feed kicked off this year and it is great. Commentaries on franchise movies (this year they did Marvel) and random shit like a walk across Manhattan talking about the history of movies with weird frame rates.

I think you may want to rethink that guesa through the eyes of racist movie execs in the 80s.

I hate typing lol, but that did make me laugh out loud. Solid gag.

Yeah it started out as a list for up and coming writers, which was run by assistants, but as soon as it became a thing, agents gamed the system.

I dont think there is necessarily a normal for creatora. Lots of actors don’t watch their work back. Woody Allen never watches any of his films after the premiere. I get it. I hate being at screenings of my own stuff. I’m grand in the edit, but watching something I’ve made with a crowd or even as it’s broadcast makes

The Limey commentary is an all time great. Dobbs the writer and Sorderberg are friends who spend the whole time arguing over whether he’s ruined Dobbs script with his stupid changes.

Every single big moment in comics is very likely to be retconned. As long as the writer tells an interesting story with it, who cares what the next writer does?

As much as I want to get self righteous about Jackson, I've read enough 70s rock book to know a LOT of those guys had 14 year old "girlfriends". I've never been a massive Jackson fan, but losing Zeppelin and the Stones? I don't think I'm a good enough person.

Knows nothing about the world of TV? Black has done about a dozen TV show episodes in the last decade alone and plenty more early in his career. Given who he is and who his friends are, I’d imagine he has a fair idea of what TV production looks like. I’d imagine he doesn’t mean 9 to 5 entirely literally.

It’s a fun experiment and shows ha ow amazing the tech we carry round is, but motion is the challenge of any de-aging process. Not just the actors facial muscles, but the changing light in a scene moving across the face. The effect in the movie doesn't really work for me, but it's an incredible technical and artistic

I appreciate where Scorcese is coming from, but fuck the self righteous Twitter film snobs insisting on the how the movie must be watched. Lots of people (Scorcese included) grew up watching movies on tiny 14 inch, low res TVs, with half the picture cropped off to fit the screen and ad breaks every ten minutes. Not

I had heard the dog and weed stuff, I hadn’t heard the abusive towards cast and crew stuff. I've got no time for that shit at all. If that’s true, fair enough, fuck that guy.

When I said it was in Disney’s interests, I meant that they were booting him from Star Wars. It’s better from a PR POV to let go someone with a reputation for irresponsibility than just cutting him because he’s had a box office flop.

Hold on, do you genuinely think the post was there to "humble brag" that he had a girlfriend?
