What sort of person would you have cast? Because I’m sure Hardy did something in that vein in one of the twelve separate performances he turned in in that film.

Yeah, he's an amazing actor but was just given the most generic "evil corporate guy" role to play. I kept waiting for the twist or idea that made sense of why he signed on, but it never came.
Sounds good, looking forward to it. Anyone from the UK looking for an irreverent Downs syndrome comedy drama could do worse than watching Ups and Downs on BBC iPlayer.
Venom is a shitty movie but Tom Hardy batshit insane but utterly captivating performance is its saving grace. Recasting that would be madness.
It could easily be terrible PR. If it gets received badly, which it most likely would, everyone involved looks like an idiot. If it’s better than Whedon cut, they look like idiots for not staying the course. Plus there are a bunch of big name actors who might not like raw versions of their performance against…
I enjoyed it a lot. Its too long and the dialogue desperately needed a punch up but for me it’s succeeded at out what it set out to be. Yes it's somehow even dumber and more cartoony than the fast films but that was clear going in. It knows what it is and revels in it. Is anyone really invested in the family shit in…
Yeah the debate about whether the snyder cut exists seems dumb to me. Of course they had an unfinished assembly before reshoots took over. Whether you want to call that a cut or not is kinda up to you.
Yeah but that’s filmmaking isn’t it? Finding and corraling all those talented people and directing them to make something, letting their ideas inform yours. Every good film is the result of talented people other than the director.
Movies based on IP fail all the time. Plenty of things produced by JJ Abrams failed. Regardless of whether you like the product, those scripts allowed those films to be as successful as they were. It’s possible other writers could have done the same, but all that matters is he did it. Maybe he’s incredibly easy to…
You might not like his stuff, and I’m not a huge fan myself, but Kurtzman had several years of successful TV (alias, fringe, etc) before writing a string of massive successes (mission impossible 3, Transformers, Star Trek, Watchmen). I don’t think it’s fair to imply that he’s only there because JJ forces him in. The…
Thanks for the well thought out answer, I appreciate it. I’ve read a lot of dumb critiques of Slott’s run so it was nice to read a good one.
There’s both official and unofficial behind the scenes footage of them all being there together to film it. They’ve talked about all being together to shoot it. They were indoors rather than outdoors so the background was a comp, hence it looking a bit fake.
Incorrect. Dan Slott’s run was brilliant. So many wonderful ideas, sweet moments and took a few big swings.
What's the problem? The actor doesn't think it's a redemption story, the reviewer does. Should the Avclub not do interviews with actors if they don't like the film they're promoting?
Son of Rambow is a low key masterpiece, and tonally not a million miles from Hitchhikers. I think they had a decent adaptation in them, but the film felt like it had been noted to death. There were loads of setups for jokes with punchlines missing. I reckon they delivered a wry comedy and the studio tried to turn it…
True. There’s no hard scientific evidence one way or the other whether they worked or even exactly what ads CE ran and on whom. Microtargeted political ads are a very new beast and hard to research, but...
It suits the winners to play the “it didn’t make any difference” angle but why then did they spend so much money on illegally acquiring the data and then very specifically targeting their ads.
And don’t overexert yourself by addressing the actual points.
I found that with a lot of his comics stuff. Rising Stars also starts off really well, as does his Superman. They all just kind of tail off after the while.
