I would assume it’s because the word “mother” usually refers to a woman who has given birth. It’s why pregnant women are sometimes called “expecting mothers.”

Because being pregnant does not automatically make you a mother. If I were to get pregnant right now, I would not consider myself a mother. Of course this is a personal choice but we can’t assume every woman that gets pregnant wants to be pregnant or carry the child to term in order to be a mother.

I mean...

Danger to the woman. We need to stop calling every pregnant woman a mother automatically.
