Your claim that online harassment is not gendered (even if we just narrowed it to this industry) is not supported by actual data. Try again.

Really, there are people threatening to rape Rovell on a daily basis? Link some of those tweets that are worse than what was on this vid. Cause I think you’re full of it.

While no one can track down anonymous trolls using Twitter, it helps to have people say “This is awful!” as opposed to “Women just need to get thicker skin, everyone deals with stuff like this.” Acknowledging that there is a difference between most of the harassment women deal with versus what men are subjected to is

Rovell gets “vitriol” yes. Rovell gets “vitriol that treats his gender as an automatic disqualifier for basic competence at his job”... I bet not.

Rovell gets “vitriol that includes rape and death threats”... I haven’t exhaustively examined his feed, but I’m willing to bet the answer to that is not only no, but hell no.

Please, show me where the rape threats are in Rovell’s mentions? Show me where someone tweets his home address and threatens to murder his family? These women would KILL to only have to deal with the “vitriol” in Rovell’s mentions. And if you seriously can’t comprehend the difference between “delete your account” and

Seeing the guys read these—flinching, horrified and repulsed—made me feel bad for them, because clearly they would never send something like this to anybody. I don’t blame the guys and applaud them going through this uncomfortable experience.

Off topic: the guy in the grey hoodie thing has beautiful eyes. On topic: I hope this makes guys aware of *why* Schroedinger’s rapist is a thing. Obviously none of these guys wrote these tweets but *they could have* and we would have absolutely no way of knowing.

Or even Nicole Brown. How many 911 calls with the sickening sounds of violence clear for everyone to hear and it didn’t stop her from being killed.

Travis is a troll with a platform and Rovell but I see no death and rape threats their way constantly for just stating an opinion so...Nope.

Right. Like if you can’t learn to disagree in a way that doesn’t involve threatening people with rape and bodily harm, you get your toy taken away.

there’s already dudes upthread #notallmen-ing

This episode of All Things Considered included a discussion of Lindy West’s confrontation and interview with one of her worst trolls. It’s so painful to hear about what he did to her, but his seemingly-genuine remorse gives me a tiny sparkle of hope that maybe some of these people can get better?.... Sigh. Our society

yes, sometimes they get harassed to the point that it’s completely interfering with their ability to market their work/do their job. this doesn’t just apply to these kind of situations either, the internet mob justice is also at fault.

“If it happened in real life people would be in jail for harassment and stalking.”

This is one of those things that highlights the bullshit of the #NotAllMen argument. Because it’s like, well, obviously, dumbasses. but when you don’t stand up for the women who have been threatened and victimized (just for doing their fucking jobs)- you are still part of the problem. At least maybe now they

I came here to say that women don’t get paid to do those things. Marriage is an institution that generally guaranteed these things for men regardless of how they treated their wives and that their wives never got a fucking salary.

I get told all the time that “Twitter isn’t real life.” But it IS real life.

Or Twitter could even do a better job creating and enforcing anti-harassment policies.

I follow both of these women on Twitter and they are smart, funny and opinionated. I sometimes disagree with them but when I do, my reaction is more along the lines of “oh, c’mon - that’s nuts” not “I hope you get your skull crushed by a hockey stick”.

the guys who send this stuff are probably beyond help
