Tesla 3 will be fast and good looking. In other words, aspirational not utilitarian. The graphic showing how its a Honda Fit body points to the big problem with the Volt. Every EV on the market with maybe the exception of the i3 is an econobox with an electric drive train. Tesla saw that EVs could be quick and

all of these choices can be nitpicked and argued which I guess this the point but from this is a more Jalopy kind of list. Well done @marshknute!

I’ve had mine 9 months and love it more all the time and going through serious depression during Chicago winter. I’ve never driven anything more fun and its decently practical for everyday use considering that its a roadster. As one commenter put it, 6th gear isn’t long and 80 mph is a lot of rpms, but other than that

What she said

I’m with Stef on this. Nothing with 4 seats is going to give you the satisfaction of a proper sports car. Keep the Vette and get something larger for when you need to take the kid. Not sure your family plans big keep in mind you may be several years away from kids plural and if you need something really big get it

You might mention to potential bargains seekers that these cars could be hard to service outside of California and Oregon. A couple years ago the Fiat dealer in Evanston, IL said thy don’t service the 500e.

There literally a handful of iMievs sold per month.

And really most consumers leased not bought these vehicles. The makers would rather dump these compliance vehicles in cheap leases rather than sticker prices. I think the 500e was leasing at something like $80/month at some points.

a determined assassin could probably figure it out. surprising they don’t shut down the roads.

They salt the salt here in Chicago otherwise I’d be driving her year round. Taking an S2000 through the Rockies, damn. Must have been glorious.

If the S2000 gearbox has God’s shifter then the top down vents are the Devil’s heater. 9000 rpm redline, 120 hp/liter, chassis-better-than-a-coupe and that heater. What a machine!

I thought the differences in trim packages was just trim, not mechanical stuff.

Carry 4 and get the same engine and the rest of the tech for under $30k in a used 2016 Camaro SS. With proper tires it won’t kill you on slick roads.

Its a cool car because its a sleeper and quasi-Mustang then and now. Its exciting because of its Q-ship status but its not really a head turner.

Google N54 Dyno

N54 with a tune: “300 lb ft, oh that’s cute. Bless your heart!”

I don’t like this 320i but I think he recommended it in part because it can had CPO.

This 180 horse Jalop special is for everyone but Jalopnik readers. The editors seem to like it though I don’t think they would ever buy one. E90/92 335i’s are now in the teens. Save about $10k on the purchase and put away a couple grand maintenance.

A lot of silly Jalop ideas (and that’s great) but I’m surprised I haven’t seen this yet. BWM 335i xDrive or called in earlier years 335xi. The 3 series generation that started in ‘08 is pretty large. If these aren’t big enough, go for the 535i xDrive. If you want true unicorn status they did make a 5-series wagon.

Glad to hear you had a good experience. I test drove an MX-5 last year. The sales guy was a Miata fanatic, autocrosser. Knew all the cars well and was helpful.
