Because women in the west typically were not equals. As a matter of homage to Wild West fiction and as a matter of depicting some measure of historical truth, both being goals that Rockstar stressed during development, it would be dishonest to have that inaccuracy.

Like other parts that fill out specific homages to the genre as ficiton, that particular achievement is there for much the same reason.

She's hung, but you end up saving her.

Given the particular portrayal of the west, RDR is fairly on point with many of the realities of women and their place in the west and in revolutionary Mexico, while still paying homage to the classical depiction of the time period.

For the time period, it's not exactly uncommon that the major players are going to be men.

continued reliance on sexualized gameplay tropes can have disturbing implications both on-screen and off.

In terms of realism of the harshness of the west, it was a fair depiction.

This comment is asinine. RDR is several years old and it's entirely possible to forget major players in a dated game.

I'm not about to count how many logical fallacies you tripped over righting that little piece.

That entire line of reasoning dies a horrific death because gamers are terrible consumers. They like to complain about everything but are utterly unwilling to make the sacrifice of not buying a triple-A title every now and again, even if buying said title conflicts with their principles.

That's not really what's happening here. The tone of the majority of these articles borderline on misrepresentation of some of the facts.

That still doesn't change the fact that as creative pieces, these developers and designers don't owe anybody that representation. That's like saying "Kesha doesn't represent me because she doesn't sing about video games. She should sing about video games".

Those are some rose-colored glasses you've got there.

Because when you don't use the tech, and the competitor does, you run the risk of losing the edge in terms of graphics and some gameplay content, which can and does affect sales, even if those factors aren't everything.

Love how you give others in this thread shit for speculating on the amount of work this stuff would require and then turn around with speculation of your own.

Fuck that though. It would make the dialogue in the game extremely weak.

You continue to dance around the points of discussion, including those that you have made.

Wow, another strong misrepresentation of my argument. If your only line of reasoning is no fallacy, then you're not going to convince anyone of anything.

Not really. In terms of creative works, there's no real love behind that sort of thing, so it's unlikely to result in a creative product that truly means anything.
