I eat in fine dining establishments and have never been brought a bottle of water when I ask for water. It’s not about it being cost prohibitive it’s the principle of the matter. They don’t charge if you accept fresh ground pepper, they shouldn’t charge for water.

That is bait and switch. A glass of water is free so if they offer it as flat or sparkling then that makes them sound equivalent. If they’re going to charge for it it should be offered when they ask for your beverage order. 

Woah, I’d be pissed if a server did that. 

I just never encounter seltzer otherwise. Now I want to see if I can get it for free at a bar...

I live in Minneapolis where we have a huge Somali community and my doctor’s office has posters in the exam rooms with information on the risks of FGM. This is a deeply ingrained tradition that will take a lot more outreach to change.

There are some sit down restaurants where they ask if you want your water bubbly or still. In that case it’s free and the same could easily be assumed at fast food places.

Some places have another tab like the water one that has soda water on the next one over. That’s why I always considered it free because it’s served the same way as water.

To question whether politicians are corrupt is more a sign of jadedness than of naivete.

Salted butter really does take toast and bagels to the next level, but that’s it. Cooking is always to be done unsalted. I’ve always been a baker and didn’t even discover salted until I was a teenager.

True, sleeping in the car is not as good as sleeping in a bed but it is sleeping and it does make the time fly.

You’re not very good at this. You feel the puke coming, you pull over and make yourself wretch until it actually comes, get back in the car with an empty stomach. I have had to do this as the driver because motion sickness is a b. 

It’s always good to have a fun place to stop planned on the way where they can run around like crazy. Also, if you have 2 drivers you might as well leave early af in the morning and then take nap shifts.
