Well I’m guessing that some of the times the baby woke up it only needed comforting, those times the mom wouldn’t be woken. The doula would be  expected to have more knowledge distinguishing restless cries from hungry cries.

This is an important addition to Opsahl’s point about in person conversations. Any format that people communicate over can be ‘impervious to detection’ if the people communicating use an agreed upon code. They could literally be putting ads on public airwaves with a code in it and it’d be impervious to detection.
