Adding in... I truly believe that if we could take care of kids for the first seven years of their life, our entire population would benefit. That means starting from sex ed, prenatal care, access to healthcare, access to safe living environments, protection from abuse, food security, and access to strong public…
Authority is very different than practice, especially when the rule is largely leveraged against brown people and not others.
I wonder if someone explained this to him afterward? Because if there was a warrant against him (or against his cronies) he basically is forcing Congress to expose it and the evidence used to justify the warrants.
Yes.
Well, at least it was the Bergen County Record and not the NYT.
I thought there was something weird about my microwave...
Same goes for people who send their straight kids to Bible camp to keep them out of trouble. I think all camp is about awkward sexual discovery.*
As a marketer, I think it’s all about spin. We put in the brochure that we’re all about helping your child connect with God’s plan for them. We just leave out the part where we say that we think God’s plan is for them to be who they are.
What did Naomi mean by “I’m an actress now”?
I am picturing him with a fan in hand, for the record.
And on safe sex... and on LGBTQ history... and archery and arts & crafts and volleyball.
There should always be debate and discussion. But in 2017, that’s tough to come by when it’s just people writing articles or posting comments and not actually engaging with those who hold another viewpoint.
And for kids who are interested, they could hear from LGBTQ people who attend churches that, ya know, don’t tell them they are going to burn in hell. So they know that if they want to practice their faith there are safe places to do that.
Can we pool our money to set up a fake gay conversion camp for kids? We’ll be all churchy and then when the parents pull away, it’ll just be a regular fun camp for kids with shitty parents.
As someone else commented more eloquently that I could, we see the wide-spread abuse within organizations because we put walls around the perpetrators that allow us to quantify the victims in what feels like a more meaningful way.
At least what I’ve read about this group is that the leader was assumed to be celibate as well— I haven’t seen any allegations against him. So... that’s something?
Thank you for writing this. I was thinking about commenting something similar but it kept coming out like I was defending churches. The danger of focusing on churches or the Boy Scouts or other nationally-recognized structured organizations is that it gives us a false sense of security for our children at daycare,…
At this point I assume there’s sexual abuse within all churches (and cults). I would be more shocked by an article that stated that a religious organization didn’t have reports of abuse.
