Then go out to the Bantustans in the Eastern Cape and watch the eyes of the tens of thousands of malnourished people who had no way of even trying to better their lives.

It's even worse than you think; Kansas once upon a time had some of the best, most progressive schools in the States. Back then, though, its politicians tended either toward centrism or outright progressivism. The religious right fixed that, though.
