It’s also a good theft deterrent. Even if someone managed to break in and start it up, they wouldn’t be able to leave the parking lot anyway.

I could never possibly ask anyone to borrow their car. I could ask them to give me a ride if I really need, but borrow a several-thousand-dollar machine I don’t know? What if some drunk idiot hits me at a stop light and vanishes, or the engine randomly decides to explode while I’m driving it? How could I ever repay…
This.
...which also burned oil?
Not sure how loss of coolant would trigger a CEL. AFAIK the light is only used to tell about errors in emissions control systems.
It’s also in most old VW owner’s manuals I’ve seen. Mine certainly says that.
Sometimes I think I should have bought the N/A version - then I floor the right-most pedal, wait two seconds, watch the boost gauge creep into the positive area, feel the punch from the turbo kicking in, hear the whooshing noises, and wonder why I ever questioned my choice in the first place.

Just noticed this is an old af post. Hope that car has been treating you better for the past few months!
Holy crap, man.
I keep having to give you a star whenever this argument comes up. The “hurr durr diesel torque bro” spiel people spit out annoys me to the same degree of Honda fanboys with their “hurr durr, horsepowers per liter are more better bro” nonsense.
Found Taki Inoue’s Kinja account.
A friend gave me the “paying the credit card bill in full every month” tip a while ago and it’s some of the best advice I’ve had. I mostly use the credit card for online shopping, just as I did before with bank transfer or paypal, so I still treat it as if using my own money rather than borrowing, except the money is…
What if they get stuck in the down position during a blizzard? I see how that could be regarded as a safety issue, but it’s a bit of a stretch.
Like the Ferrari Enzo Ferrari?
I saw a brand new one today. Saw it from the side and thought “holy shit, why would anyone buy that a bloated POS”. Then I saw the front and threw up in my mouth. What a horrible thing.
