Yes, there is a factor called “social desirability bias” in some polling that always has to be taken into account.  They have to correct for that somehow, although I don’t know how they do it.

Excellent point.  So my sister is either naive, or she’s just making more excuses for him.  Her deflection is always that the media is untruthful.  I suppose they get some things wrong, but they have to vet their sources.  They can’t just write whatever they want, as if it’s the National Enquirer.

I can definitely see why you are bitter. Your father should take your circumstances into consideration when considering his own vote. If he’s in a deep red state, it won’t matter, but as an issue if principle, he should put it at the top of his list. I am so sorry that he’s so inconsiderate.

I don’t know. We have never run in the same circles, and a lot of her life is a question mark to me. One thing that confuses me is that we both have LGBTQ adult children. I am worried about Trump’s new pick for the Supreme Court, my sister is not. Why? Seems like the mother of a gay son would be worried about that…

She used to be more empathetic, though.  She’s doing fine in the pandemic, as am I, but I worry about Congress passing a stimulus bill.  Not because *I* need it, but because I am aware that there are millions of people suffering.  She doesn’t need anything, so she doesn’t care.

My sister is not as self-important as yours appears to be. She really doesn’t seem to feel that she’s better than others, there’s just a lack of interest in anyone else’s welfare. So this seems to be a difference.

I don’t know what’s up with my sister. She’s always been somewhat conservative, but she’s never been this uncaring. She’s got plenty of money, is unaffected by the pandemic, and has excellent medical coverage.

I think you’re right. What makes matters worse, she’s not very well informed. So when I try to tell her things, she says it’s “just sad” that I believe the media. Excuse me?
