From what I've read so far, material witness warrant powers originate in a federal law. Not sure if that means any state could therefor pass its own version pursuant to state law if it so chose, but sounds like Maryland has tried to grapple with this problem as well.

Complicated stuff. The devil's in the details, and I can't think of anything more rife with details than the law.

Thanks for the reply. I knew that the rules of evidence allow an attorney to question an uncooperative witness differently. Time for me to read up on this "material witness warrant" business.

I had no idea that any court has the power force a witness to testify, much less a victim, let alone imprison him or her in an effort to do so. Where's her ACLU lawyer?
