IMO there are some uncomfortable parallels between dudes that post revenge porn of their girlfriends and women that post the names of their alleged rapists online. Both are done with the intention of igniting a knee-jerk emotional/disgust/contempt reaction, counting on people not to slow down and think about the

The problem with selling that idea is that it's hard to convince people that the same issue is wide-spread, yet only manifests violently in a few.

Biggest? No. Most important? There's an argument to be made.

"Hole is not mentioned."

I'd have more dismay if he wasn't right, and the music he worshipped wasn't so much better than all the other music people denigrate him for failing to 'appreciate'.

"Raise your hand if you have been personally victimized by Rolling Stone" might be the best thing I read all day.

Well said.

True. But it means her accusation isn't strong enough to base a huge cover-piece around.

No, s/he's right. She forgot her job was to be a journalist and question everything, rather than a rape victim advocate and believe every damn thing her source told her (despite the hilariously sketchy request not to talk to the accused).

Skepticism of a crime when the only 'evidence' is an accusation is 100% warranted. Had RS and Anna responded to the stories with the same skepticism as Bradley and Soave, a lot of embarrassment on both their parts could have been avoided.

They say that for ANY crime. Hell, you're supposed to write down everything you see or notice is missing if you come home to find your house broken into.

You think putting emphasis on existing victims is somehow less empathetic than prioritizing the hypothetical victimization of future victims?

"Or the non-existent cute single guys at the grocery store or gym?"

Sorry, but no. You don't get to speak for other women as far as what approaches, attitudes or language they may be receptive to, based on the man delivering them or the context.

I'd say men and women alike share the blame for the current state of the dating market.

Well that sounds terrible. Giving one user-group greater agency over the process than the other is simply gross.

How is your current whining any different than the inevitable gamergate whining in response to the twitter upgrades?

Manti Te'o didn't lie about having a dead girlfriend, he genuinely believed it. He was conned.

I believe they were minors at the time, themselves. Some minors have been given harsh sentences for creating child pornography as an attempt to combat revenge porn, but otherwise the punishments are usually pretty light if it's a kid sharing pictures of another kid.

Likely because he was also a minor at the time, and may have even been featured in the porn (I don't know the details, to be honest). While he may technically be an adult now, he wasn't at the time of the crime, so what are they going to do, send an adult to juvy?
