none of them.
none of them.
If getting like minded people elected worked why didn’t we get a public option? Why did we end up with ACA? Or better yet why not get single payer.
All of this is because you are quibbling over the term “increase in buying power”? Fuck right off. The calculus for the for the hypothetical character in the OP doesn’t change. They have more purchasing power at $15.00/hour than at $13.00.
Incrental change will not provide the change we need. You don’t understand how to win so you take a loser approach and loser strategy and you lower expectations because you don’t understand the big picture of building the power that is required for us to win big. You view power differently than me and that’s fine. We…
How about I give you $86.67 and you give me $100 in 1924? Or I give you $86.67 today and you give me $100? I give you $86.67 in 2024 and your give me $100? No?
70% can be done. It just takes organizing which takes resources. Right now there are few organizations doing actual organizing. I know how this could be done but will not address it here since it would be a long and read by few and doesn’t truly matter to people who read kinja comments.
No, I got it. 15 > 13 whether it’s now or 2024.
Even granting you the inflation numbers needed to make that happen in 4 years, which is it’s own ball of yarn, it’s still a period of increased purchasing power over time before returning the current level, compared to losing purchasing power over the entire period. I’m not seeing the problem here.
Even if you make the same as your coworkers at $15.00/hour you will at worst still have 6.9% more buying power
You do direct actions to put pressure on decision makers to enact law. In my view we just fundamentally view politics and governing differently. A general strike or boycotts would get lawmakers to pass legislation.
The reason this meta-analysis is both correct and misleading is that few people make minimum wage anyway.
Not to mention the fact that everything else seems to purposely raise in price when wages go up so people are either back to square one with affordability, or just scraping by with what little gain they got in earnings.
You are worth 15% - 30% more with a minimum wage increase.
Bernie is the only who knows none of this matters if there are no mass direct actions demanding changes for M4All, Green New Deal, taxing the rich.
It’s not about this president getting a ton of stuff done, it’s about laying the foundation so the next wave of dem socialists coming through have an easier time and the public is ready.
Half of those links don’t support the dead in 2011 sentence.
dead in 2011 you say?
The same way that it happened last time. Same way that his last run encourgaged people like AOC to defeat the ones who would have stood idly by.
I get that you don’t think it would be the case, but there’s a long list of people who wouldn’t have thought we’d be where we are now 4 years ago. Here we are.
