Oh, wasn’t suggesting that Marvel needs to something as fundamentally different as Reeves did with Batman, just meant it as an example. And completely agreed with everything you wrote.

I think the fundamental aspect I disagree with here is the last point about indie filmmakers, at least to a degree. This has actually turned out to be a pet peeve for me over the past few years where it has felt there has been the blame casting on the directors in defense of MCU and especially Feige.

Yeah, I already stated that the box office is down, but this is horrible weekend to use as an example how this top movie made more than the rest of the top 10 combined. That happened often in 2019 as well.

But the comparison doesn’t work because the partial reason the box office is so depressed just now is because of the movies that are out. There aren’t any big movies that would justify that point.

I thought you said it was a waste of time? Because turned out to be surprisingly easy.

Disney highlighted the financial success of GotG3 multiple times after the film came. It didn’t meet the expectations for the opening weekend, but it also turned out to have strong legs and didn’t have that steep of a drop for the second weekend.

So a couple of things. First you responded to me about how good B actually is without seemingly having done even a cursory research on Cinemascores.

I mean ultimately the box office is always a roller coaster. The new Mission Impossible got great reviews and audience reception numbers, but still underperformed. Although that was also affected that it came just before the juggernauts that Barbie and Oppenheimer turned out to be, but still.

Yeah, I don’t understand this current spin on Guardians 3 at all.

Couple of things. The Marvels did not compete with any other big films in this window, so that comparison to the other top 10 films is just weird.

Other cinematic classics that have received a Cinemascore of B:

Completely agreed on the X-Men issue here, which I’ve been so baffled why they haven’t started the true grounding of them in the MCU as it is a massive undertaking.

Excellently put. Not only this, but your initial comment about how tragically weird the discussion has become.

Man, when I went to watch Black Adam, I had a blast during it and plenty of people in the theater were having fun with it. After the film I still thought the film was bad, but now that we have established that individual anecdotal experiences trump all, I guess I was wrong.

I’ve gotten this response a couple of times now and continue to find them confusing as I’m not arguing that MCU isn’t going to introduce the X-Men. Rather that the current teases with them don’t compare at all to Thanos. Not because of quality, but because of content.

Of course they have and other way around as well.

Jesus Christ that is brutal.

Yeah on both counts. I do wonder how much the actor’s strike and the stars not being to promote the film affected the outcome. Although then again while I do like Brie Larson as an actress, I don’t know if she is the kind of a sparkling personality who is able to drum that kind of interest during promotional tours.

The most brutal review headline I saw for this film was from New York Times, which was ‘You’ve seen this movie 32 times before’.

Fundamentally so, yes. I don’t even really understand the question here.
