I simply won't buy any ebooks (or readers) that come with DRM. I got really excited when Jobs mentioned they're using the "open ePub" format for the iPad.

I think Yahoo is still annoying with POP/forwarding in that they want you to pay actual, like, money for those services.

Oh, and recoating with A/R means you're getting crappy A/R that will scratch soon anyway. Premium (as in the stuff that costs $20-40 more) A/Rs come with one or two-year warranties and are generally more scratch-resistant anyway.

Don't strip polycarbonate lenses! They have a hard coat underneath the A/R that keeps them from scratching pretty much immediately—poly is really soft, which is why it's so shatter-resistant.

I still want to make one of these. I have two old Mac chassis, just need to get Dremel-ing, I guess. #homeservers

A 7-point scale carried to two decimal places? Hey BYU, percentages called, they miss you. #cleaning

Alt+D-Tab, or CTRL+T-Tab.

I've gotten very good results with my (distinctly average) Panasonic FZ5* with f/stop 2.8, ISO 100 (since it doesn't have a really great lens, it's really noisy if it's as dark as a typical concert and I go much higher), shutter speed 1/15th of a second. Depending on lighting, I'll go with a faster exposure, but 1/13

@MePerson: I agree too. I uninstalled it when the first article about the crapware appeared. I was on the verge of doing it anyway because it's such a tremendous memory hog on my poor overtaxed system.

It seems like I post this in every "mai browser iz teh BETTARZ" comment thread, but the Opera Web Developer Toolbar/Menu is really indispensable, even if you're not a web developer, if only for the "InIE" and "InFF" quick links that launch the page you're on directly to the browser, and the quick user agent switcher

I found it on a web server (don't ask me why it was there) a few weeks back, running 40 or so [GoogleUpdater.exe] services at once, slowing the machine to a crawl, so this is welcome news indeed. Now I just need to remember which server it was...

@slaughter33: You support different service tiers based on signup date? That's interesting. It stands to reason that the companies, after shafting new customers for a while, will decide it's too much work to figure out who is and isn't capped and just cap everyone.

Sheesh, all these gyrations to install an ad-blocker just for browsers. Get Ad Muncher, system-wide ad-blocking, super customizable. Done.

I am so glad I don't work in optical anymore when I see things like this. But anyway, if your prescription is mild, around +/-3.00, you're fine doing this. More than that, have a pro at least measure your PD (most people will do this no questions asked, just have them write it on your RX). If you're higher, around

Anyone else think it's weird that the lowest-ticketed cars are almost exclusively GM models?

I'm using Gmail IMAP in Opera. F4 to open the mail panel, hit Compose. I log in to Gmail proper about once a month to archive my old stuff.

I used Canaca for 8 years, had very few problems and attentive customer service when I did. The others are likely better, but since someone on pg 1 or 2 mentioned them as sucking rocks, I had to give 'em a half-hearted shout-out. I work part-time for a hosting company now (mostly business hosting or I'd do a little
