I’m afraid that story may have grown in the telling some. When a patient comes into an ER, they don’t know what’s wrong with them, or what has to be done. You can’t drill for something that’s radically different every time.

During DPF regen, the exhaust entering the DEF can easily see 1000+degF. This is the reason that modern diesel trucks have those goofy-ass exhaust tips with the diffuser nozzles welded on. It’s to try and sufficiently cool the exhaust gasses, to prevent melting the bumper of the car behind you during a regen.

Looks like diesel in the DEF tank to me.

I think there’s always a danger with this kind of ready-reckoning selection - as if three is some magic number - hides a lot of the complexity of life. Even with the ‘exception’ disclaimer, there are people, friends, family, acquaintances where 3 is not the right number. It oversimplifies life which is not just a case…
