Nobody ever repainted it/peeled the vinyl off. Probably an older prototype being used to test something mundane under the hood - BMW just recycled a 2 series prototype instead of converting a car off the line. Common practice with OEMs.

Straight 6, or multiple of, is the closest you can get to a perfectly balanced engine.
They do - great big CNC router to carve out a clay model from CAD. They can also make adjustments with the clay, and then scan the model back into the computer.
Speaking as an owner who does all the maintenance/repair, its not THAT awful, it just requires......creativity.
