I miss having a current file activity progress and an overall progress bar. One of the old program installers had this (the one in Master of Orion 2) and it gave a nice sense of how far you were in the process as well as whether there was still current activity.

Google voice for sure, you should be able to create contact lists for each group of email and simply text that list to hit all the people you want.

I was using a 42" LCD as a second monitor and that worked out really well. I was able to do more of the day to day work on the main monitor and then send stuff to the TV for a larger view.

For the resolution, if you plan on connecting to a PC at all, 1080p makes a big difference. It basically means you get a desktop resolution of 1920x1080 vs 1280x720, which is a pretty dramatic difference.

One thing that i noticed; I keep my gmail on push, however when I setup iCloud it was also on push. That didn't seem entirely necessary, so I switched iCloud to hourly and it seems to help.
