@TehBeardMan: it's a tough call, I run into these issues all the time deciding which might be bad. If you can identify where the smell is coming from or see any scorch marks on the board, that would help a lot.

my ATI 4870 runs everything at the highest settings without a single problem. I'm sure a quad core helps with 4gb of ram.
