I understand the theory behind the scoring system (wanting to push people to do harder things/ rotating four times in the air is super hard even if you fall), but I feel like the people who designed it overlooked two obvious flaws. The first one is an increase in injuries, and the second is that watching people fall

He’s still skating, but he had a not so great year and only came in sixth place at US nationals. His short program was to Hamilton.

It reminds me of Columbine and how Eric Harris was reported to the police and school administration multiple times for threatening people and posting about pipe bombs online, but the police never followed up on it.

I think because they see so many jumps they get good at counting them. Also, the rotations are so much faster on the quad that it just looks different from a triple. They’re allowed to go back and watch in slow motion if they think there weren’t four full rotations.

It’s against competition rules right now, but there have been same sex pairs routines in shows that are really cool to watch. For example :

Yes, there’s so many angsty romantic ice dance programs that they can start to feel a little boring. I like watching the Shibs bring something different.

I’m partially going by what Johnny Weir said in his commentary. He had to withdraw mid-performance once and he said it’s always better to withdraw beforehand.

They should fire whoever told them that would be a good idea.

He’s also said some pretty racist things about skaters. Here he is talking about a skater from Japan:

They skate so well, and (on a shallow note) they are so attractive.

She had a pressure wound on her ankle that got infected. Her bandage was black and therefore more noticeable than if she had found a bandage that matched her skin. Dave Lease basically said she chose the dark bandage to draw attention to her injury and withdrew halfway through her program to save face since she was

Yeah, he’s the worst.

I’ve seen a few women wear beige skates, but white and beige are pretty much the only options. I have seen skaters wear black/colored tights or pants and pull those over their skates to make the costume match.

Yes, but a skater’s foundational skating skills don’t change drastically from one competition to the next. In between Patrick’s jumps he had solid, deep edges, good transitions, and great flow.

Or if he had replaced one of his opening double axels with a triple flip.

Patrick Chan is widely acknowledged to have the best foundational skating skills in the field. Those are a big part of the component score, which is why those marks were so high.

I learned to tell the difference using this video. Watching the approach into the jumps is easier than looking for the exact edge.

The director’s goal is not just to depict a scene of violence, but also to make sure that the performer is emotionally safe.

Why is he so familiar with what authentic strangulation looks like?
