Live service games don’t have to be free to play, even to this day they are very rarely free to play.

With some degree of nuance, I would say it is definitely a trend setting game. It set the benchmark for live service games. Live service games have patterns that are similar to MMO or similar games before, but it’s definitely a distinct blueprint from those.

I think it’s fine to have fun with the game, but I think there are definitely many valid criticisms of the game. What isn’t okay is the toxicity, and petulance that so many gamers are directing at people just trying to do their job in shitty conditions.
