Maclin’s performance, injured or not, didn’t warrant the contract. For a team that’s as cash-strapped as Kansas City, it makes perfect sense.

To be fair, both Charles and Maclin were large hits last year - and their lack of production ultimately lead to both of their releases this offseason - so KC wasn’t in a position to give Berry a long-term deal before the 2016 season started. (Why anyone finds these releases surprising is beyond me.)

It was definitely a short-sighted move.

As an Avs fan I wish I could argue against this. (I will - in true Internet sports fan fashion - note that van Riemsdyk just got trade to Carolina which may pave the way for a Duchene move. TvR isn’t a world-beater, but he would certainly add something to Colorado’s defense. I pray for a 60 point season.)
