No no, you have to earn a basket.

The fact that a linesman’s sole job during a shootout is to stand there watching the goalkeeper to ensure they don’t move off the line before the ball is kicked and VAR is now in use, yet they never call for a re-kick is such a soccer/FIFA thing. Does any other sport have iron-clad rules that are just ignored more

The quality and style of refereeing varies greatly, so the “Fair Play” tiebreaker is as much of a crapshoot as anything. It’d make much more sense to make shots or shots on goal a tiebreaker since goals scored is prioritized over goals allowed and that hypothetical tiebreaker would also reward positive, attacking play.

Ah, yes, I was technically incorrect.

I just want to know who designed that ballpark, which opened in 2011 as a baseball-specific stadium yet has the foul territory of a ‘70s-era, multi-purpose monstrosity. Resurrect Rosenblatt Stadium!

Korea was already out of contention, so they needed it merely for pride.

Anthony Bourdain said this, and I wholeheartedly agree:

Exactly. The penalty on Cedric yesterday was a truly horrendous call made worse by the fact it was only called after video review. However, you don’t fix one ref boner by repeating it the next day for the sake of, what, consistency? Yesterday’s was wrong, today’s was right.

Befriend the comma, bro.

On the bright side, I didn’t get a meme reference, so I’ve never felt like a more competent and well-adjusted adult than I do right now. I’ll just carry on over here in this world where Pepe rocked a skinhead for ages and leave 4Chan to the rest of you.

And Amrabat was concussed against Iran, played yesterday against FIFA regulations (didn’t recover for the minimum amount of time between matches), removed his head guard after 16 minutes, and said that he played because “I am my own doctor,” sooo...

Oh yeah, that stupid frog co-opted by the “alt” right... My bad.

As a Giants fan, I’m pissed they did this in solidarity with that complete ass hat Hunter Strickland. They don’t usually do this kinda thing, so to get dragged into it by such a turd is inexcusable.

Because no one appeals to white nationalists more than...a light-brown-skinned Brazilian?

Ronaldo may have mistimed his dive, but the defender made knee-to-knee contact (shown very clearly upon replay) as Ronaldo cut back with his dribble. If the ref saw that and called it, the replay would’ve only supported the decision. A no-call there was fine, but it wasn’t a phantom dive - there was contact.

It was one of those odd games in which you could say England deserved to win because it could’ve/should’ve been ahead three goals by halftime and also claim that with the way Tunisia settled down and defended after halftime it deserved the draw it nearly got.

Pretending that the U.S.-Mexico rivalry is in the same universe as Brazil-Argentina or Manchester United-Liverpool or Yankees-Red Sox is silly, and in fact smacks of the same kind of cosplaying that too often afflicts America’s insecure soccer fandom culture.

How is Chicharito only 30?! And how has it been less than a decade since he started playing for Manchester United? He’s the soccer equivalent of a college basketball player you’ve watched on ESPN for four-going-on-14 years

She started the damn sentence with “Especially if...,” yet Pasty O’Tallguy knows she really meant “ONLY IF YOU’RE A WOMAN!!!”

They did all fail to beat inferior sides. Inferior doesn’t mean bad, it just means not as good. That said, I was only truly surprised by the Mexico victory because of how it happened. I never would’ve guessed Mexico could play out a 1-0 win against Germany like that.
