People pirate video games (or music, or movies) because there is very very little, if any chance of consequence, period-end-of-story. They just happen to be the only items that are available for you purchase both physically digitally.

Not sure about other countries but here in the states you are legally responsible for what your children do until the age of 18. So if my kid decides to be a shit head and trashes a few cars at the local dealer then I am on the hook to pay for it.
