Oh, there is SO MUCH MORE they’re gonna hate it for, I promise you.

I will say that unlike those movies, the storytelling in this is really the feature. Nolan makes some narrative and filmmaking choices that I don’t even have the vocabulary to discuss, but they take what we might call a fairly standard biopic structure today and makes it feel different and fresh.

I can’t speak to the mass appeal of it, but I will tell you what the appeal is for me.

Going to do OppenBarbie starting in about an hour and a half, but I’m still calling it Barbenheimer simply because that’s the way better name.

Unless you’re like me, who plans to see both of them in a double feature.

Even if these hadn’t been released on the same day, I would expect Barbie to outperform Oppenheimer. It’s just more broadly appealing subject matter. So this isn’t exactly surprising.

I keep thinking of that very underrated AMC series Manhattan (https://www.imdb.com/title/tt3231564/). It’s not centered around Oppenheimer. He’s actually a very minor character in it, but it’s a damn excellent show.
