Obviously the lawsuit is silly and Lorde can perform shows wherever she wants but I get why there are some upset people. Canceling a show for her audience, most of whom probably have never voted in their lives, out of a disapproval of their country’s government probably would feel unfair even if that government were

Because the niche circle he has clout with are the dolts who give out Oscars.

Yeah, he was not a great dude and seemed to annoy the heck out of everyone else in the band(to say nothing of how he treated his wives/children).

A nice guy who can keep the beat is severely underrated for making a band not want to kill each other.

I assume it has something to do with stepping over the battered bloody corpses of her enemies.

John Lennon - Not very talented is a pretty solid hot take.

My days in a band didn’t teach me much but on the “Is/isn’t a Dick and Is/isn’t a super-talented drummer” graph you want a guy like Ringo.

I really don’t think this would be rocket science. I think it could be solved relatively simply.

That’s untrue. You’re the one contending that university administrations can’t possibly figure out a way to control fraternities and sororities. You’re the one saying that hiring competent people is some sort of pie in the sky fantasy. I’m setting the bar incredibly low here and you’re saying that we should give

Oh please. Banning one form of campus organization is not strong action. It’s the cheapest, laziest action masquerading as decisiveness. Meanwhile they’ll still have an ineffectual police force and incompetent administration. Maybe address those things first before declaring anything hopelessly broken.

My guess is that’s actually more common than we think. It’s definitely true of UWO.

I don’t agree. I think any culture can be changed with effective control and proper regulation. Besides I think the underlying issues would still remain. Fraternities didn’t fuck-up campus culture, they grew out of it. Throw a bunch of young people together without proper supervision and they’re going to get fucked up

After a quick google search it looks like they’re at most of the big ones in Ontario. So, again, it seems like more of an America problem than a Fraternity problem.

Yeah, I suppose I just don’t see how you get there and your answer is “ban fraternities” and not “fundamentally change the way universities are run”. I want universities to have institutional control over their students. If they’re failing at that, fix that. Otherwise you’re just dealing with a symptom of a thoroughly

I’m not sure where you went to school but McGill and U of Toronto both have them so regardless of where you fall on that particular debate, the best schools in Canada seem to have figured out a way to deal with the concept.

Exactly. They’re adults. So if they break the law, they should face the consequences of it and administrations should be diligent in coming down on them in those situations. However likewise, they’re adults. So if they want to build a clubhouse and say “No Girls Allowed” well, that’s ultimately up to them as well no

Ball pain is one of those things that forces empathy upon you. You could tell me Hitler got kicked in the balls(well, ball) and I’d still wince a little. That shit is no joke.

There’s plenty of evidence that Lincoln was not in favour of being particularly punitive to either the South or the leaders of the Confederacy. I think it’s pretty fair to say that influenced the decision making process.

I don’t know how it works where you went to school but schools didn’t “provide” greek houses where I went to school. The sororities/fraternities paid for their own houses. And they were off-campus.

Which is why the campus, and their police, should be doing a better job of things. I don’t think a good answer here is “Well, the campus police we control are a bunch of incompetent frauds so really, we’re powerless to act”.
