Yeah, the whole 'hey, why don't you smile?' business can go have a seat.

It's a matter of optics, though, and this was part of the basis for the controversy with Sean Penn and Casey Affleck, etc. If someone this unrepentent can do all of these things with no consequences (as in, still appear on a popluar TV show, etc), doesn't that minimize their actions and invalidate the experience of

I get where you're coming from. For me, this is two separate issues (and thank goodness there are two of us here so that people don't think 'oh, ok, so *all* black women' etc). The first has to do with respectability politics and I am absolutely not here for any of that nonsense. But the second, the 'acknowledgement'

Also, it's not like there's a shortage of actors or even actor/rappers that could've taken this role..

Your response, as far as I'm concerned, was completely warranted. The intersectionality of racist stereotypes and misogyny often minimizes our legitimate issues. We absolutely have every right to call out horrific behavior as we see fit. Even if black men have been emasculated by slavery and racism, black women have

Agreed. It's just a sadly specific form of silencing Black women. The conversation around Nate Parker was a fascinating one because of the aforementioned argument.

The only reason I caught it is because I was waiting for the re-airing!

There was an article about this episode over at the Root yesterday:

Honestly? Skip Iron Fist and wait for Defenders. You've got plenty of other choices there that aren't a waste of TV watching time!

I didn't watch the episode (and won't), but thank you for the headline, Ashley.

I couldn't bring myself to watch the last two episodes, but I've really enjoyed the conversations in all the episode recaps. So many people have had such interesting ways of workshopping this show!

Becca: Sensei Wing!
Colleen: Heard you were working here.
Becca: I know, can you believe it? When you met me, I was pickpocketing on the L Train. Now I'm going to be a doctor.

Oh absolutely! I wasn't disappointed or anything, just surprised that they didn't follow through-as someone else pointed out, since they didn't it just seemed like an unecessary trolling of comic book fans.

I thought they were going to give her the bionic arm at that point too, but mostly because at the time I assumed that they were still going to make Danny and Misty a thing and so she'd reappear in The Defenders with a swanky new arm.

Totally agree. I think that's why so many of us, despite all this show's failings, keep watching it. It does seem like there is a decent show in here somewhere, but there are just too many things wrong, from terrible pacing to atrocious dialogue to horrendous editing.

This is the beginning of the 'whenever Davos isn't onscreen, we should be asking where he is so he can make some actual sense of this garbage.' part of the show.

Yes, and thank goodness! It annoyed me to no end that Davos' criticism of Danny, his logical understanding of their situation, and even his ability to calm himself the hell down (which any person with years of meditation practice would easily be able to do) were played humorously/not taken seriously by any of the

I really have liked watching Joy and Ward's relationship, Harold to a lesser extent. Joy and Ward treat each other like actual people and not a character to be talked at, and I can't say the same for most of the dialogue on this show. They have a believable familiarity and don't do stupid things like TELL SOMEONE WHO

But…but…SHE KNEW HIS FATHER!!!

They really, really should've just waited until Defenders.
