Right, but it’s also that we’re talking about an era in which games didn’t encompass a wide range of genres, and really, what would a video game based on Ducktales even be about? It was rarely about fighting and violence, especially not on the part of Uncle Scrooge.

Yeah, I’ve noticed this, and it’s honestly pretty surprising, especially since tie-in games were pretty much inevitable up until Marvel Studios began (and, I guess, the Nolan Batman films). Hell, it’s pretty incredible that the Rocksteady Batman games were based more on the comics than on any of the films.

“Blame the fans” isn’t usually my go-to approach for poor practices in the industry, but in the case, yeah, blame the fans. If games based on these licenses weren’t so profitable, companies wouldn’t make so many of them.

Tip for game developers: if you are trying to make a philosophical point about repetition in life, making the gameplay more repetitive does not help your point become more compelling.

Game designers really need to find an alternative approach to making the point about futile repetition without padding out the game with more futile repetition.
