Fake Empire is so clearly a National reference that I am shocked it wasn't mentioned in that article.
The actual reason is great, though.
(relatively) uncompressed dynamics on a Radiohead album???
I need to check this out.
EDIT:
erm…

I had a similar reaction to Paramount's Feature Presentation intro… sheesh.
That is incredibly hard to say out loud
The new single would be better if they didn't literally reuse a line from "Just Smoke" at the climax- one of the worst songs on Wilder Mind imho.
And there are some surprisingly good songs on there, especially Ditmas, Tompkins Square Park, and Snake Eyes.
I think they just got too famous too quickly.
I knew Alibini was well-spoken but I was genuinely moved by what he said here.
Her last song had the actual line "let's talk about Israel/cause right now it is real".
That's all I have to add.
This feature is exactly what the A.V Club needs.
I'm really enjoying these interviews.
LOVE this album. I predict cult-classic status.
It really takes John Seabrook's ideas about melodic math to their logical conclusion.
DAMN
4 Degrees kicks all kinds of ass, as does Drone Bomb Me. Other than Laura Marling and Radiohead (who I mentioned in another comment), there's not really an album I'm looking forward to more.
Radiohead and Laura Marling (especially the former) are also rumored to come out soon
"hop on the funeral pyre and join the invisible choir" sounds more like Frightened Rabbit if anything
"This place usually has a high signal-to-noise ratio" beautifully said.
Agreed— this is genuinely an intelligent piece where I feel like a lot of thinkpieces will just be three paragraphs of unfounded opinion. The depth of knowledge on display here is something I don't see that often in modern internet journalism, especially not pop culture journalism.
"an ice mountain using toothpicks for hooks"
is that a phrase? I adore it.
And yet, there is no other way to combine those names.
"Batlexander Manilton" is the best one I've heard, both in spite of and because of that title.
