I love how the National always comes up in these music articles about lyrics. When we were talking about weird lyrics in another one I mentioned the second verse of Humiliation: "All the LA women/fall asleep while swimming/I got paid to fish them out/and then one day I lost the job".
Though again, that's probably

PARKING YOUR CAR YOU SAID I'M OVERWHELMED YOU WERE THINKING OUT LOUD YOU SAID I'M OVERWHELMED
(those are not examples of cringe-worthy lyrics. I just love this song.)

And every other lyric on that song is incredible too:
I'm a confident liar
Had my head in the oven so you'd know where I'll be
I'll try to be more romantic
I want to believe in everything you believe
But I was less than amazing
Do not know what all the troubles are for
Fall asleep in your branches
You're the only thing I ever

I'm pretty sure that line is supposed to be funny too… I'm not sure if anyone has seen Mistaken For Strangers but Matt Berninger actually has a great sense of humor in that movie.

A pimp would commit suicide like a mexican hates fireworks.

Oh what an ordinary day…

Owl John is a grower, though it's definitely a rather scattershot record.
It makes sense when you consider that he wrote the lyrics in LA after recording over 10 days in Scotland. Once you think of that, a line like "I'm breaking down on boulevards" goes from maddeningly vague to brutal, and the album starts to make

Slightly off topic, but I'm still amazed that Morrissey's last album actually contains the lines

that's Sam Barsanti.

This got me worried that O'Neal left.

I saw that headline and I was like OH GOD NOT HIM TOO

I thought it was kind of like a meta happy ending for the film. (those who've seen it and can follow my train of thought will know what i mean)

Reminds me of Digital Domain and John Textor. (Look that up. Really sad.)

I'd expect to find these comments on Entertainment Weekly, not here…
(I'd say Stereogum but their comments section rivals ours)

Oh my god…

Finally saw the Lego movie last week. I know that $60 Million dollars is low for a movie of that scale but I still don't know how Lord and Miller convinced Warner Bros. to give that money to such a brilliantly weird movie.

"Semen stains the mountain tops", anyone?!

Mr. Brightside is a downright classic song. (and I actually used to love Human before I realized wait the chorus makes zero sense)

"In December drinking horchata
I'd look psychotic in a balaclava"
