I think it’s just her style. Fran has after all just run through the streets in her high heels to be with Bud; she shows, she doesn’t tell.  And she’s the one in charge of the situation; that will probably always be the key to their relationship.

Interestingly at this point, it’s Hoffman who’s been outed as the difficult-to-work-with asshole, and whatever the hell is going on in Cruise’s personal life, he’s known for being very professional and easy to work with on set.

It’s hardly an original opinion, I know, but I always thought Cruise deserved the Oscar more than Hoffman did.
