Or do what my family & I do — use furoshiki (either the original Japanese wrapping cloths or any square piece of fabric, e.g. a bandanna or scarf), and wrap the presents (there are videos online, it’s super easy).

I’m in Canada so the “what will it cost me” question is not so likely to come up for medical procedures, but I will say that when you’re talking about a dental procedure, the best person to ask is the dental receptionist. S/he’s the one who manages invoices and (where direct billing is available) contacts the dental

The most awesome Christmas “tree” I ever saw was a huge, spreading, single bough of evergreen that the owner had suspended from a hook in the ceiling, then decorated with baubles and lights. It looked fantastic! Plus, since it was dangling from the ceiling, it was easy to sweep up underneath as the needles dropped.

Yup! I do!

That’s adorable!

Would the developmental stage of the child not be a consideration?

Miraculously, I can watch this clip despite being outside the U.S.A. Thank you, YouTube gods!

Special mention for the (non-Christmas-themed) Meet Me in St. Louis for the Christmas-related scenes, especially Judy Garland’s rendition of “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas” which, in context, is the most poignant thing ever.

As a young child I managed to catch chickenpox and scarlet fever at the same time. It wasn’t fun. My memories are fuzzy (I don’t remember the high fevers and delirium part), but my parents were utterly terrified.

Sure. That was the whole point - Grandpa has his bear with him, too.

Not available in Canada... :P

“Local Hero” is admittedly so low-key that I can understand having a doze, but it’s a terrific film. It also features a gawky young Peter Capaldi, who is adorable.

Our municipality recently outlawed the use of plastic bags being given out in shops. So far, customers are either remembering to bring in their own reusable (usually nylon) shopping bags, or they’re paying 15 cents or whatever for a paper bag.
