Since you like the historicals, have you tried Mary Robinette Kowal's Glamourist Histories? They're set in the Regency, but in a world where people practice glamour (basically, light-based magic). Quite fun adventure romances with light fantasy to them.

I would point out that James Patterson - who openly admits he doesn't write his books, only "comes up with the idea" - is filed under "literature" while Diana Gabaldon, who slaves over her books for 2-3 years at a time, is filed under "romance".
