It’s very easy to spoof phone numbers, or at least it used to be as of 2 years ago. I had a case involving this - the expert we hired spoofed my parents’ home number in a call to me while we were sitting in a conference room. It took him all of 30 seconds once I gave him the telephone number to “call” from. 

Exactly why I passed. Although to be fair, I am still looking for that “next” car anyway.
