I was pretty surprised that the fruit and veggie bar was in addition to the regular meal. Our school contracts out for lunch, so that may be how they are able to afford to do it.

Part of the issue with school lunches is that there is a lot to accomplish on an incredibly limited budget. Cheap, unhealthy food solved that problem, but it creates bigger issues in the long-term for student health.

Back in the 90s MTV used to do Halloween-themed Cartoon Sushi episodes. Michael Dougherty's Season's Greetings was one that I particularly remember. It's not particularly scary, but still good in a creepy way.

That's terrible. I know that CPS has a job to do, but the case in the NPR story is especially heart breaking. If nothing else, maybe there will be a little more oversight from the publicity of this. Of course, that doesn't change the damage done to these kids.
