I delivered at an Air Force hospital and the doctor who was attending had never seen me during my pregnancy. Of course that's usually not a normal occurrence but it definitely can happen because birthing doesn't exactly work on a regular schedule. Usually you will meet with more than one of the doctors in a practice

I was pretty surprised that the fruit and veggie bar was in addition to the regular meal. Our school contracts out for lunch, so that may be how they are able to afford to do it.

Part of the issue with school lunches is that there is a lot to accomplish on an incredibly limited budget. Cheap, unhealthy food solved that problem, but it creates bigger issues in the long-term for student health.

Now playing

Back in the 90s MTV used to do Halloween-themed Cartoon Sushi episodes. Michael Dougherty's Season's Greetings was one that I particularly remember. It's not particularly scary, but still good in a creepy way.

So did I! It wasn't Halloween if we didn't watch that.

I think you're right about that. My son isn't old enough yet for sex ed in school, but I wonder how much regular testing is stressed now? There used to be PSAs about testing, but I haven't seen something like that in ages.

Isn't it generally just a good, healthy practice to get regularly tested when you are sexually active? Being a teenager doesn't make someone immune to STDs. I imagine high schoolers also aren't using protection correctly/all the time, so that's another variable to add into that mix. I know many parents don't want to

I was thinking the same thing. I didn't know she went to events as Oscar's plus-one.

That's terrible. I know that CPS has a job to do, but the case in the NPR story is especially heart breaking. If nothing else, maybe there will be a little more oversight from the publicity of this. Of course, that doesn't change the damage done to these kids.

I heard part of this on my way home too. I can't imagine what their family is going through trying to cope with what happened to the two girls.

Works for me! Then I'd have an excuse. "But it's a time-suck. I can't help it if I get completely off track for large amounts of time!"

I'm really looking forward to this. I don't have any loans, but my husband has a good chunk of them from his BA and MA, which equal what we could pay as a mortgage payment each month. Anything that can lighten the load and allow us to save a little each month would be amazing.

I have to grade a massive stack of papers tonight, but I thin I'll watch this for a tiny bit more. Just to get myself motivated... for not grading papers....

Sorry about your week. Hope things even out for you.

From teaching night classes to a mixed group of traditional and non-traditional students, I've found that self-absorption is not limited to the younger generation. Maybe Americans have just trended toward this over the last few generations, and it is more pronounced in teenagers because they are loud when they're

I heard him say the "I'm running for office here" bit on NPR this morning and couldn't believe he actually said that out loud. He's the worst aspects of a professional candidate all in one.

How can she be difficult to dress when she already goes pantless all the time? Their wardrobe department sounds lazy.

It's so important to know your rights! It sucks that she was arrested, but I'm glad that she will be vocal about what happened and bring more press to the arrests that are being made.

Yeah, I'm not a big fan of her acting, but I do really like She & Him and M. Ward especially. Plus, Christmas albums are kind of fun.

Yes! Beyond the terrible marketing, I would never buy a product named "skinny" whatever. If I want water, I can fill up my bottle at the tap, thanks.
