Yeah, the post-Lion King features were a bit past my time, but all were at least sizable commercial and critical hits. The Kingdom of the Sun/Emperor's New Groove overhaul was the big turning point.

Or it's going to be about three middle-aged men in San Francisco coming to terms with their sexuality.
It really does. I'm happy to say that they still deliver live, too - one of the tightest and most energetic reunion shows I've ever seen.
What I love about Kill List is how creepy and unsettling it is long before any of the crazier horror elements take hold. It manages to make everything seem foreboding and off-kilter without tipping its hand too much. And then those last 20 minutes… egad.
The Pest is a standby for Listener Request. It has the hallmarks of great WHM - Jeffrey Jones, human hunting, casual racism, and obnoxious theme music.
I briefly spoke with Andrew after one of the live shows, Maximum Overdrive came up - he seemed hesitant to cover it as it might have been too close to the Birdemic/The Room area of notorious bad films. Thinner seems way up their ally, so I'm pulling for that.
"JOHN! ARE YOU HURTIN' A FLASK!?"
I always took it to mean very generic Seger/Skynard-style southern rock.
Even without Brimley, we had JCVD's search for "Deddy", the economics of hunting humans, Lance Henrickson as the devil, and watching porn in a helicopter. Just a great episode, front to back.
This hands down has to be my favorite overall episode since Tuff Turf. The sheer glee they have describing Cajun Brimley on a horse, bow in hand, racing away from an exploding moonshine base is infectious.
It was a late entry, but The Core was easily among the best episodes of the year. "My ass, movie!" has immediately entered my lexicon.
The Moore era is rough overall, but so outright nutty that it will probably make for good podcast material.
I love that the final, epic sound collage featured the bit with Paul and Tom just breaking down into hysterics.
It's also good to start with some of Tom's more famous rants and routines (the Gathering of the Juggalos, the Billy Crystal Jazz Man, World's Sleaziest Rocker). Episodes as a whole can lull at points and tend to be more enjoyable if you're familiar with Tom's personality, ticks, and relationships with callers.
Because technically it prohibits "nationally syndicated radio shows", and the Best Show doesn't air outside of WFMU before going to podcast.
The first 2/3 didn't do that much for me, but that finale is so grotesquely, hilariously over-the-top that it kind of elevated my opinion of the whole thing.
BNL are triple platinum. Are you triple platinum, @avclub-d71760750778a95386b703f5c9e474f0:disqus?
"To the Last" for me. Nothing this year struck me as much as that elongated pause being punctured by his vocals. I was a fan before, but this album (and this track in particular) has made him my favorite male vocalist since Jeff Buckley.
1. James Blake - Overgrown
2. Autre Ne Veut - Anxiety
3. Charli XCX - True Romance
4. Earl Sweatshirt - Doris
5. Haim - Days Are Gone
6. Deafheaven - Sunbather
7. Janelle Monae - Electric Lady
8. Baths - Obsidian
9. Dirty Beaches - Drifters/Love Is The Devil
10. My Bloody Valentine - MBV
Jason freaking out at Howard going for a job interview is my favorite moment of the show this year. "Now, keep in mind, he's a FUCKING DUCK."
