I think the solution lies in how much freedom you are giving to the player in shaping the story. Even in games like Baldur’s Gate 3, where you have absolute freedom, you can hint at the canon version of a character, and let the player decide. On the other hand, I love that I can have Shadowheart as my in-game girlfriend (it makes a betrayal even more despicable and funny later in the game). Well, Max Payne 3, from the company now suing the company that developed Max Payne 1 and 2, was a success. Baldur’s Gate 3 wouldn’t be what it is today if it was developed by the carcass of Bioware that did the first two.

It’s one weak point, I think, is the lack of playable online shooters. I thought that Apex Legends was going to encourage developers to port their shooty games there. Destiny and The Finals could be very playable if they wanted to.

This is not a problem. The cream ultimately rises to the top. Most of the junk games will remain unknown for most, and Valve has a return policy if you ever stumble into one of them. Besides, who knows what hidden gems can be found on that pile.

I think we should stop calling the Steam Deck a mini PC. It’s a portable console with PC capabilities, not the other way around.
