Remember? Yes. Played on one? Hell no. It takes a sadistic mind to turn Office Big Mac into an actual goddamn jail.

Gen Xer here. Not only did the playgrounds of our youth not have foam cushioning, they were most the rusting, jagged hand-me-downs of the much larger Baby Boom generation. The playground scene in Kramer vs. Kramer rings very true.
Man, you are knocking it out of the park with these, Katie. What a great read. And the before/afters are really cool to look at as well, it’s pretty funny how the janky-looking crosswalk light seems to be there in both Grauman shots (while the crosswalk itself was painted over to get that 1969 feeling).
Nothing to add to the actual discussion, but I can’t resist showing off one of my most prized possessions:
Not to steal your thunder, but there’s a Deadspin reunion going on over at unnamedtemporarysportsblog.com. Tons of articles already, but it will be gone in a few days. Get your fix!
Oh, God. How I LOATHED that book!
Is it cool not to like Kerouac now? Fuck that. Truly one of the great American authors. This isn’t open for debate
(Sorry, but I really don’t get all the hate for The Scarlet Letter.)
The Scarlet letter is not puritanical! The puritanical people are the villains in The Scarlet Letter. Hester Prynne is the heroine and she emerges victorious and happy in the end. Sheesh people. Actually read the damn book. It’s not that long. You can knock it off in an afternoon.
I’m sorry but I don’t think you know what censorship means. Goodreads isn’t some state-sanctioned site that bans books. It’s a site where people voice their opinions on books. You are free to disagree with them but nobody’s free speech is being violated.
You’re summarizing it wrong! She either had a naturally large vagina and could only be satisfied by Sonny’s donkey dick or Sonny’s donkey dick broke her.
Ugh. The Godfather. Shit book that became a great movie. It’s been 25 years since I read it, but it feels like half the book was spent on Lucy’s vaginal surgery to accommodate Sonny’s huge schwang. Truly a classic.
Moby Dick is frickin’ great. People are so weird about books.
[25 years later, the guard opens the door to his cell. Seeing it empty, in a panic he calls the warden over]
The Boy in the Plastic Bubble? Wow. I can’t have even thought about that film for at least 30 years.
I love Rat Trap far more than the near-ubiquitous I Don’t Like Mondays.
I just want to admit here and now, that as a 50 year old man... Sha Na Na was my very first concert. I loved them on TV, so my parents took me.
Oh I could go on and on about Sorcerer. The theme is as relevant as ever today (I don’t just mean about geopolitical stuff, I mean the numbness and acceptance of how much control you have over your life), the worldbuilding and tension-setting are superb, the set pieces are some of the best I’ve ever seen, with actors…
Sorcerer - now there’s the movie I want to talk about. Halloween may have been the tension-filled beginning of an era, but Sorcerer was the tension-filled end of an era.
For me, it never gets better than this:
