Screw this: no Central High (as in Massacre at) and no New Grenada HS from Over The Edge? No Westerberg High?
YES! This and Class of 1999 comes to mind.
Passable? I think it’d be pretty damn great and despite you being a misanthrope, I’m giving you a mental high five. It’s a great idea.
As someone who wanted to be edgy and to this day hates the majority of those Hughes movies (mainly the ones that didn’t have Chevy Chase or Steve Martin)
I’m (way) older than you, but same: the soundtracks from “Over the Edge” and “Repo Man” were just so influential on a nerdy, suburban kid. To say nothing of Rock N Roll HS. When I finally met the one other person in my town who liked all those things, we of course formed a shitty band.
So wait...it says 24 writers BEFORE the sampling? That’s...huh.
“The Talisman” gets short thrifting? I legit think that’s King’s best book: Straub and him are perfect together.
Hey hey, let’s not compare him to some awful Family Guy joke my friend :) I feel like Bane (while being the butt of the joke a lot) is legit pretty great in other ways that Meg on FG flat out isn’t. To me, it’s more how he’s the Milton from Office Space of that universe, which absolutely slays me. It’s not that they…
Corman the Barbarian is eternal, like his films dammit!
I fucking LOVE King Shark. All the side characters (IE not Harley and Ivy) are pretty great, but the King is...well, the King. Followed by Bane.
But did he wear an onion on his belt as was the style at the time?
Definitely one of the best character actors of that era (along with Oates and HD Stanton of course).
I legit loved “Winning Time” - as someone who was not a basketball fan but vividly remembers the era, it was SO perfect. And you’re right: Reilly was incredible. Although Adrian Brody as Pat Riley was my favorite.
That 64 to 66 gap (aka the Beatles came and put Elvis into the retro category - although he really did it to himself listening to the Colonel and making those shitty movies) really stands out.
Shoot- I haven’t seen K v K since I was a little kid and I just realized you described my childhood from ages 8 to 16.
“You mean the motorcycle Ninjas?”
As @hasselt mentioned below, I remember the first run (sort of) and absolutely on UHF and my NY local stations (WPIX, WOR and WNEW)
Oh Hai Winner
As an old, I don’t get the whole “big ass” thing but to each their own. She seems like an attractive young lady with some genuine acting chops.
