As I said, the writers just took her corruption too far. For having such "benevolent" motivations, Kuvira shouldn't be resorting to the tactics of sociopaths like Stalin or the Kims.
Compare it to Zaheer threatening genocide of the airbenders. It might have been a bit too extreme and out of character for such a

Before the season started I thought it was going to open with Bolin starting up a lavabending school… then I realized what a horrible idea that would be.

Most, if not all of the elite security team went with Kuvira when she went to Ba Sing Se. Its not difficult to imagine the new guards aren't terribly competent.

I know people can't say anything good about Book 2, but it did give us Varrick! Amazing character, amazing VA, and amazing development in this episode.

Which is exactly why I did NOT say I didn't believe in them

Its disturbing how this reviewer still sympathizes with Kuvira… You might as well sympathize with Stalin at this point, all that's missing is her inevitable genocide. I think the writers overdid it with her character.
Re-education/Concentration camps are so

The thing about this series and its predecessor is its FULL of those blatant moments. I think the writers are just used to writing for children/young adults even as their subject matter matures. I'm very interested to see how they write dialogue in their future adult-oriented projects

You just reminded me of that, but I always thought he got his job back after killing Jimmy.

No fucking way!!… Really?!

Was this Nucky even still County Treasurer in season 5? It was never stated directly, but he was preparing for the end of prohibition which wouldn't make any sense for the real or fake Nucky who makes their money from the tourism Atlantic City's vice attracts

I totally agree that killing Maybelle was too much for him, but the entire reason he killed her was the out-of-character part I was talking about. The guy who walked up to a 14 year old boy and killed him with a shotgun in season 1, couldn't kill an old dog in season 4. Its poetic and all that, sure, but it was still

I understand that, but the reviewer isn't making that argument. He keeps pointing out little bits of implausibility even though we're three seasons away from any hint of realism

I honestly thought that Nucky was going to apologize/help Gillian simply because it was out of character for him. Its the same thing they did with Harrow in season 4, make the polite, sociopathic shell shocked veteran, who's killed 64 people, finally grow an aversion to killing after adding a few to the tally.
I'm

You're right about that…

I don't understand how a person can watch this series and still complain about any lack of realism. Boggles my mind…
A captured GI, brainwashed and converted… sure, fine, kinda possible. But the everything-else part? The terrorist's competent enough to actually endanger our government, more than that kill a VP,

Wow!

Kuvira seems kind of boring in comparison and cliche after Zaheer. I really hope they give her a compelling reason for trying to take Zaofu besides the whole "Conqueror" thing, and for Varrick to explain why he's working for her… We know he's an overly ambitious, greedy JP Morgan-type, but what does he have to gain

Also partly to do with the introduction of Red Lotus. Zaheer, Henry Rollins' voice, and the mystery of his motivation( and reveal of his motivation) was fantastic.

This means likely no Blackfish… Gone the way of Greatjon
