I get the whole blind seeing thing, but Toph was moving continents when she earthbended. The only people who bended as much earth as her were Aang and Korra in avatar state

What's irritating is he's becoming the 'apologetic royal'. He's self-aware enough to know some of his faults which means he's probably going to be crowned King in some capacity. Hopefully he will abolish the monarchy at the end of the series rather than do a reluctant ruler a la Zuko.
I thought that was a nice lampshade on how overpowered she was in original series. She was so strong in Book 3, she could have probably beaten Ozai by herself…
First impression for me is she's pretty stereotypical. That will probably change as the season goes on, but there's no way they could have replicated Zaheer's introduction. He's the kind of villain that comes around once in a while.
Season 4:Balance will henceforth be named Season 4:Vindication of Zaheer!
I really liked it when I was a kid, and, though I can now recognize the glaring flaws, I still like it. I actually really like Affleck's performance and kudos to him for actually wearing those blind contacts. I tried it once and it wasn't fun.
Best part of the movie-
"What do you want?"
"JUSTICE!"
He's just gonna get absorbed back into Guillermo on the Kimmel show. He always going to be a part of our lives as long as Kimmel stays on the air
I'm pretty sure I saw one of the Zhao Fu guards firebend, so its not an exclusively metalbending society.
He's the villain who's motivation gets corrupted along with his actions. He's more similar to Sozin in the original series who wanted to bring Fire Nation prosperity to the rest of the world, and then just became a conqueror. Unalaq wanted to abolish the world governments and bring the world back in connection with…
Good point, I didn't know about the Buddhist thing. They probably should have changed that detail instead of messing with the Yin-Yang concept. And Tonraq as a prince was pretty disappointing to me. He should have been a soldier at most, a soldier betrayed by Unalaq or something
If they actually make Xai Bau the big bad next season its possible they could make him a bad guy version of Iroh, a former White Lotus older man with a deep philosophical outlook. I can see Korra actually sitting down and listening/debating him next season. Someone who could inspire Zaheer has to be a charismatic and…
I think the writers, DiMartino in particular just have a fascination with history and aren't particularly interested in the deeper political aspects and philosophical aspects. The Last Airbender had an insane amount of detail in its Eastern culture references and even some historical allusions. Korra stepped up those…
But if you look close enough at anyone you'll find something to sympathize about them. Evil idoesn't just come from no where, it has to be shaped by experience, psychology, etc. Even Hitler had a sympathetically shitty childhood- abusive father, dead mother…
Aang didn't have to witness the more dimensional side of…
You indirectly bring up another great point-
Why the hell does Korra have to be royalty?!?! That was totally unnecessary for the plot of season 2 and actually ties the role of the avatar a little too closely with the human governments. Tonraq is a badass, but I think he could have still been a badass if he was just a…
You can still have that conflict with a "sympathetic" villain though. Serial killers can do horrific things but there's still a sympathetic backstory hidden behind all that killing(for most of them, I would assume…). I liked Ozai, and I like Aang's conflict, but I still think you could have had him with more "notes"
I think the point Konietzko and DiMartino had with their villain motivations was just to GIVE them motivation. They've said in a few interviews that while they were proud of The Last Airbender they felt it had a lot of problems, and I personally think that villain motivation was one of them in their eyes.
Ozai was…
I hope this means Xai Bau is the season 4 big bad. If he is, then I hope he breaks Zaheer out of prison in the first episode. Rollins did great in this role!
I agree with most of what you said, but Justin Theroux is probably my favorite part of this show. His eyebrows are a close second
Makes me think Scott Glenn is preparing for another role
Yeah… It was a bit of a stretch on my part
