I even loved his formal sweatpants look for Hometowns!

Yeah that goodbye was not at all satisfying either. After Dean has been, surprisingly, the most well-spoken and self-aware bachelor this season (maybe ever), he’s basically like, I’m out and we don’t get to see them have The Last Conversation? Rachel got SO defensive when Dean was like, you said you were falling in

House Hunters lol totally

Yeah me too. I was like, huh?

Super bummed Dean is too young to be the Bachelor. Would so much rather watch a whole season of him. Imagine, a Bachelor with self-awareness!

Honestly, before I even got to this comment thread I took a break from reading the post just to marvel at the headline. Keep up the good work!

Thanks for the Kelsey Miller recommendation. I just dove in but I think I’m going to get a lot out of this...

There’s a book called The Wonder Weeks that I used as a bible for the first year and a half of my kid’s life. It tells you about all these supposedly predictable developmental leaps in every kid’s life, and that’s how you know what’s going on, why they’re extra fussy, why the sleep regressions happen etc. I found it

Do you read former Jezebelian Brian Moylan’s Vulture recaps? THE BEST:

yeah I mean tofurkey sausages are the real crime here

I don’t think it’s a big deal.

Those pictures are amazing and I was drooling over the location almost as much as I was drooling over him. It looks so tropical and chill and just completely like I want to be there RIGHT NOW so I went to the story to find out where they are and omg it’s CATALINA. Holy shit if that doesn’t look like some far-off

My kid’s dad will be off celebrating Father’s Day with his OTHER kids. So, yeah. Not into it.

How long are you swishing for? I tried it a couple of times and yeah it was rough.

I’m almost 10 years out of NYC and it took me a couple of years to shed the hostility. It’s worth it. Congrats xxo

I heard Joni Mitchell’s California on the radio just now and it made me so goddamned happy to be standing in my kitchen in the fading light, folding laundry.

BINGO DING DING DING

Reminds me so much of this interview with the model Tatiana Patitz that I read when I was in high school. She said a whole cauliflower makes a great dinner because it really fills you up. I’ll never forget it.

You are allowed to think about that for 7 seconds. Then let it go. Freedom!

Have you read The Unconsoled by Kazuo Ishiguro? While not in the tradition of magical realism, this book (one of my favorites) has the subtle-perceptual-shift method of writing that you’ve described so well. Most critics describe this as Kafka-esque. Would love a class on Kafka vs. the magical realists / overlap /
