Great piece, Dvora. This whole situation is just heartbreaking.

The same reasons as any other sport: friends do it, talented, helps kids learn about working hard, dedication, team work, perserverence, etc. There are plenty of pros to sports beyond college scholarship or participating in the olmypics.

This is why we have the phrase “special place in hell.”

The existence of Obama, a highly successful President and fundamentally decent human being, is a criticism of Donald. I hope he directly addresses Cheeto Jesus at some point, but just continuing to inspire us is huge.

Hold out hope for that legendary Obama shade!

You are correct. Referring to your spouse as “mom” or “dad” in a family conversation is perfectly normal. As in “Mom is going to live somewhere else because dad had dinner with his female coworker last night.”

You almost nailed it.

I was reading this article thinking “wait, isn’t this a rule hardline Muslims have?”. Ol Pence has something in common (probably a lot of things actually) with his foes!

Also, as numerous “family values a.k.a anti-LBGT” Republicans can tell you, you can, in fact, cheat on your wife with a man.

“I’m an asocial hermit. Also my company is of no value to anyone.”

Pence is basically saying women are only valuable for sex. Or men have no ability to think about them as anything else.

Strongly religious people are weird in the workplace. My buddy is a recruiter and he found a perfect candidate for (blank) gig based on the work experience and skills. He takes the guy to meet the female client and the dude straight up refuses to shake hands on the ground that he won’t touch a woman he isn’t married

Let’s not forget a lot of these dudes presume (ala Todd Akin) that women run around yelling “RAPE” to try to advantage themselves. George Will literally wrote a column (in the friggin WASHINGTON POST!!) claiming this. I think these guys think gender separation is the only way to prevent sexual accusations that, in

If having dinner one-on-one with women meant I’d have sex with her I would have had sex with a lot more women and also invite women to dinner more often. Since this is not always a thing that happens, and sometimes for the best because she doesn’t match her picture, it’s safe to say that these people lack the common

I’m a big believer in the “as long as both people are happy with it” approach to relationships/marriage. If Pence and his wife are both willing participants in the “no dinner with the opposite sex” rule, and that works for both of them, more power to them.

It’s not only a worldview that (unless Mike Pence is enough of a weirdo that he doesn’t do any of this social/professional stuff with dudes either) excludes women in the man’s professional sphere from receiving the same socially-derived career benefits as men in equivalent positions.

Also, you can be an adult and have friends of the opposite gender. If you’re an adult and in a trusting, committed relationship, this should not be a problem, Mike Pence.

An awful lot of religious conservatives won’t allow themselves to be alone with a member of the opposite sex under any circumstance, because they’ve been told their whole lives that they’re essentially prisoners of their hormones and that sinful behavior is inevitable in such circumstances. (We will set aside that

Seriously what’s the appropriate reason for a married person to go out for a meal alone with a member of the other sex

Republican men have mothers, daughters, wives, granddaughters, that is it. Republican men have no female friends. As I see it, there is no reason any female not related to these assholes should have anything to do with them.
