I think the only reason why Apple became more like Google when it comes to Siri and Maps is that it's much easier this way. The last three phones I bought (HTC, Moto, Samsung) all had Micro USB. I think proprietary ports are a dumbphone thing by now.

Thanks for the info. I know it's hard to beat but I'm much too far away from the Apple ecosystem by now (no Apple hardware and not even iTunes installed), so that's not an option. Guess I'll have a look at the clumsiness myself...

Does anyone (still) use a Boxee? I've got a NAS (old HP Mediasmart but it gets the job done) with all my movies and music on it. It's fast enough for streaming to the laptop, so bandwith shouldn't be a problem. As far as I researched, Boxee seems to be the easiest solution if mainly you want to do streaming via DLNA.

Nay. Is it just my imagination or do company logos recently become "simpler" and more boring at the same time? (Microsoft!) And I don't even like the font. Their old logo was much more recognizable, iconically speaking.

I think a car company that links a large portion of its in-car audio to a phone is insane. It's not like nobody knows people change their gadgets faster than their cars. Of course Apple could have easily incorporated video and ipod out onto this adapter, but then again, Apple could have "easily" continued to support…

You're right, the Nexus handsets are a far better analogy. Although MS probably won't make it so hard to shop for their own hardware...

...and what's the big deal anyhow? In a way, Apple did the same thing when they ditched the idea of letting other companies sell their own Mac hardware.
